STRONGMAN athlete from Walloon, David Tryhuba, is back in high spirits and is in training after he was disheartened by the cancellation of the Australian Strongman Alliance Nationals that were to be held at this year’s Royal Brisbane Show.
David said that he spent 14 weeks devoted to full power training to prepare him for the 105kg weight class competition that is known to attract some of the strongest athletes in the country.
“When I heard that the EKKA was to be cancelled, I did feel deflated losing my motivation slightly, also because of the fact that the gym where I train was also forced to close,” he said.
“The competition was something that I was really looking forward too.
“It is made up of many events including the rising bar Anderson squat, the Viking press, Conan’s wheel and the rickshaw carry.
“I hold a strong passion for this sport that all started four years ago when my love for keeping fit for my military background started.”
Each week David spends hours training in the gym. He mixes this up with many hours of recovery work, sleep and maintaining a fairly strict diet all around working full time as an Avionics Technician at the Amberley Airbase.
“My motivation is back again after receiving news that the competition will go on at the end of this year, there is not a locked in date yet but is it expected to take place in late November, early December,” he said.
“I look forward to competing once again and for the event to be successful and to go ahead.”
