Local residents are invited to attend the second community meeting of the Western Corridor Community Alliance (WCCA) as the group continues building strong connections, shared understanding, and collaborative action across Western Corridor communities.
The meeting will be held on Tuesday 14 April, from 6.00pm to 7.30pm, at the Walloon Uniting Church Hall, Queen Street, Walloon.
The Western Corridor Community Alliance brings together residents, community groups, businesses, service providers, and government representatives to share information, hear updates on local matters, and strengthen collaboration across the corridor as it continues to experience significant growth. The meeting provides a forum for open, factual discussion on issues affecting the region now and into the future and is a free community event, open to anyone with an interest in the Western Corridor.
The evening will begin with a report from Ipswich City Council Division 4 Councillors, Cr Jim Madden and Cr David Martin, who will provide updates on council matters relevant to the local area.
This will be followed by a presentation from Trent Rein, Director of Service Planning, Infrastructure Services with the Department of Education. Mr Rein will outline current and future planning for new schools in the Western Corridor, anticipated timelines for education infrastructure delivery, how population growth and development approvals are informing education planning, and opportunities for ongoing engagement between the Department and local communities.
The final presentation will be delivered by local developer Chris Bennett, who has lived in the Western Corridor for the past 25 years and has more than 25 years’ experience in property development, focusing on smaller subdivisions and medium‑sized projects. Mr Bennett will speak about development in the Walloon–Thagoona corridor, including an overview of undermining and a brief explanation of underground and open‑cut mining. He will discuss how Ipswich City Council assesses land affected by historic mining, the role of geotechnical investigations, and why the corridor was rezoned for housing more than 30 years ago. He will also address the impacts of development on transport, infrastructure, topography, and services, and share practical information on how residents can engage with developers, including the importance of engaging a solicitor early.
The meeting will conclude with a questions and discussion session, providing community members with an opportunity to ask questions, seek clarification, and contribute to the conversation.
With substantial housing growth planned, the Western Corridor Community Alliance aims to provide a trusted, non‑political space for sharing factual information, designing practical responses to emerging issues, and advocating for improved transport, education, health, and community infrastructure. The Western Corridor includes Walloon, Thagoona, Rosewood, Mt Marrow, Haigslea, Tallegalla, Calvert, Ebenezer, Ashwell, and Grandchester.
The WCCA operates under Rosewood and District Supporting Communities Inc. and is guided by local volunteer residents. Community meetings are held bi‑monthly, rotating between Rosewood and Walloon, to ensure accessibility and participation across the corridor.
