Dean Browning Memorial Shield won by Junior fisher

THERE was a slow start to the Rosewood Amateur Fishing Club’s 2025 competition this year but the tide has turned.

Of the 20 members attending the February trip to Leslie Dam, only eight managed to land any fish.

The competition winner was Terry Sheppard with a catch of two Yellowbelly weighing 1.64 kg. Second place went to Wayne Litfin. His one Yellowbelly and one Jewfish weighed 1.60 kg. Taking out third place was Andrew Sheean who landed two Yellowbelly and one Silver perch. His catch weighed 1.44 kg.

The March competition was held at beautiful Moogerah Dam, with only nine members competing.

Terry Sheppard claimed first place with three Jewfish, one Silver perch, one Bass and one Spangled perch. The total weight of the catch was 6.115 kg. Daren Henderson came second with five Bass weighing in at 4.06 kg. Donna Henderson came third with a catch of five Bass weighing 3.815 kg. Junior, Holly Bazzo, scored 12 points for her catch of one Spangled perch.

The third trip of the year was a saltwater competition at Jacobs Well and Jumpinpin.

Andrew Sheean won first place with one Bream, one Flathead and a 1.35 kg Herring. The total weight of his catch was 2.64kg.

Second place was a tie with Terry Sheppard and Ken Slater adding 30.3 points to their score. Terry caught four Whiting, two Bream and one Flathead. Ken caught two Whiting, two Bream and one Tailor. The Junior winner was Cooper Buhmann with one Bream.

The highlight of the year, the long weekend trip to Glenlyon Dam, didn’t disappoint. All together, 28 seniors and four Juniors competed.

Kel Larfield had a cracker of a weekend, catching two of the highly prized Murray Cod, eight Yellowbelly and one Silver perch. His total catch weighed in at 15.375 kg.

Second place went to Neil Browning with 10 Yellowbelly and two Silver perch weighing a total of 9.16 kg.

Judy Litfin claimed third place with 10 Yellowbelly weighing in at 9.04 kg.

In the Junior competition, Holly Bazzo won first place with seven Yellowbelly weighing in at a total of 8.76 kg. Arielle Bazzo came second with nine Yellowbelly weighing in at 5.96 kg. Third place went to Cooper Buhmann with one Yellowbelly weighing 0.72 kg.

The heaviest catches for the weekend were:

• Yellow belly 2.98 kg – Judy Litfin

• Murray Cod 6.52kg – Kel Larfield.

• Jewfish 2.18 kg – Loretta Domrow.

• Silver perch 1.42 kg – Wayne Litfin.

Junior Comp

• Yellowbelly 3.54 kg – Holly Bazzo.

Holly’s ‘stonker’ of a fish made her the winner of the Dean Browning Memorial Shield, which is awarded for the heaviest Yellowbelly caught at Glenlyon Dam.
