A celebration of community spirit and growth

IT’S OFFICIAL: The Rosewood Community Garden was officially launched on Saturday (May 10).

“The launch marks a major milestone for the town and surrounding areas,” said Community Project Worker, Tia Lancaster.

“With an estimated 200 people attending the event, it represented a testament to dedication, teamwork and the power of shared vision.

“The Community Garden showcased how a once empty space had flourished to become a thriving hub for sustainability, connection, and learning.”

Tia credited the success of the venture to the dedication of the volunteers, strong local support and funding from the Federal and Queensland governments’ grants programs.

“The Community Garden Official Launch was an opportunity to come together to show what a team of dedicated people can create.”

Local support included sponsorship by the QCWA, Rosewood Bendigo Bank and the Lions Club of Rosewood.

“The morning was a hive of activity, as people explored the lush garden beds, the dedicated children’s area, and the membership space, all reflecting the commitment and care that have gone into creating this welcoming space,” Tia said.

“The event featured both formal and informal moments, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, the presentation of thank you certificates and heartfelt acknowledgments for those who played a crucial role in bringing the garden to life.”

Guests had the chance to hear the story behind the garden’s journey, learn about its future plans and sponsor a tree for the forthcoming food forest.

The celebration continued with activities designed to bring people together and create lasting memories.

“Children and families enjoyed free face painting, adding a joyful touch to the day. The sausage sizzle provided a relaxed space for attendees to share a meal and connect. A beautiful celebratory cake from Rosewood Bakery was a fitting tribute to the dedication and effort behind the garden’s success,” Tia continued.

In honour of Mother’s Day, the flower pot decorating activity was a special addition to the festivities.

“At the heart of this achievement are the volunteers, local supporters and project leaders who dedicated their time, expertise, and passion to turning the Rosewood Community Garden into reality.

“The beautiful garden stands as a testament to the commitment delivered by the community garden members.

“A garden like this does not just happen – it is through clear vision, collaboration and leadership that it is made possible.

“We would like to congratulate all of the members who have helped to make it possible, especially Anne-Marie O’Brien, whose vision and commitment have been instrumental in establishing the Rosewood Community Garden.”
