Highland success at Toowoomba Show

HAYLEE Colgan was recently successful at the Toowoomba Royal Agricultural Show with her Highland stud cattle.

Haylee owns Luna which won Junior Champion and her cow and calf team, Frankie and Diamond Oracle, were awarded Grand Champion ribbons.

She is following in her mother footsteps, as Jules Armstrong has been breeding Highland Cattle for 14 years.

Haylee is the Queensland Junior Representative for the Australian Highland Cattle Society and is actively involved in teaching Animal Husbandry Skills on Highland Cattle while encouraging children and young adults to get involved.

She started her own stud, Rosewood Coos, five years ago.

Mrs Armstrong explained that Haylee was gifted a calf in exchange for assisting with cattle work, and since then she has bought and bred a further three registered heifers.

“Agricultural shows are a highlight on Haylee’s calendar, and now she is really looking forward to travelling to the Australian Highland Cattle Society National Show that will be held in New South Wales in June,” she said.

“Haylee really is amazing with the cattle and can completely drench, vaccinate, brand and ear tag with confidence. I am really proud of her.

“Most of her skills and gentle handling comes from the knowledge and expertise of her grandfather Roy Armstrong who was a local dairy farmer. He still helps out and assists which is very special.”

Vagabond Highlands is the family farm at Calvert, Amy Hindley has been a volunteer for many years, Amy assisted Haylee at the Toowoomba Show with holding Diamond Oracle, and just like Amy many other visitors and friends are always welcome, as they all get involved with the fun and joy at the Highlands farm.
