ROSEWOOD Rebels Boxers travelled to Dalby for a clean sweep at a tournament that drew 16 boxing clubs from as far as away as Bundaberg, Brisbane, the Gold Coast and other country clubs.
The first fight of the night was with Livai Savouro who went up against southpaw Kane Woodall in a division class of 58 kilograms.
Rebels coach Robbie Sbeghen said that Kane arrived with a nine win and one loss record before his encounter with Livai, so he knew it would be an uphill battle.
“Livai applied good defence and counterattack against his larger opponent and worked well when he lifted in the final rounds to win by an unanimous points decision,” he said.
“Fellow Rebel Andreas Rice drew the more experienced opponent Duke Faciol from Logan City, and yet again Andreas came up against an aggressive opponent.
“In the second round Duke went down and received a standing eight count from the referee, only to come out faster and harder.
“Andreas boxed well, keeping his opponent at bay. He worked hard when caught on the inside.
“It was a classic boxer versus brawler and the judges awarded Andreas with a unanimous points decision for his effort.
“Both fighters had to dig deep and it was a hard fought win for both lads.
“These fights are the ones you remember, they create character building and provide a great experience.
“We do enjoy going to Dalby because they always put on a good show.”
The next tournament for the Rebels is at Kallangur.
