Certificate of appreciation awarded for 36 years of service

MORE than three decades of service to the Rosewood Returned Services League was summed up by member Bernie Kington, “as a pleasure that has come with it many friendships and memorable times”.

Bernie has served with the RSL at Rosewood for 36 years and during this time he has held many roles on the board, including President and Secretary.

He has also assisted in selling badges and has worked together with other members to plan and deliver commemorative services to the community.

To congratulate Bernie, the Rosewood RSL hosted a special presentation with guests Ipswich City Council Mayor Teresa Harding, Crs Russell Milligan and Kate Kunzelmann and Member for Ipswich West Jim Madden.

Cr Harding said there were many volunteers who take the time to dedicate their service to community.

“They are special people who lead by example.

“Bernie is one of these volunteers who should be very proud of his service.

“RSL branches hold a special place in my heart and I congratulate Bernie on his achievement and service.”

Mr Madden said he had known Bernie for many years through his assistance with the Rosewood RSL and through attending the commemorative services in Rosewood.

“I have three family members whose names are on the Rosewood Honour Board, my family holds a special past history here in the area, so the RSL is special to me,” he said.

“Bernie is known to be a quiet achiever … someone who has served for a long time with the RSL and I congratulate him on his volunteer service and wish him all the best into the future.”

The RSL branch also presented Bernie with a certificate and a bottle of wine thanking him for his time and service within their branch.

Shaking hands as he accepted thanks, Bernie said the presentation had taken him by surprise.

“I am very grateful. My time with the branch has been meaningful to me.

“And I hope to continue with the branch for many years to come.
