Rosewood Bowls Club history to be on display for all

MINUTES and record books dating back to the first public meeting called to discuss the formation of a bowls club in Rosewood will soon be on display at the Club.

That first meeting was held on July 15, 1948.

In the books are names of families whose names remain familiar today – such as the Boughens, Freemans, Franklins, Sellars and Trewicks.

Representatives of these families attended the first meeting where the formation of the Club was discussed.

Current Club member, Dudley Eckert, came across the nine minutes and Records books and contacted Club President Terry Hobden and Rosewood Lion and Convenor of the Rosewood History Group David Pahlke.

Terry said that he was “blown away on opening the first page of one of the books, because the history contained inside was unbelievable”.

“This find, this history, is so special and important to our club and its members to remember who the club was established by and to reflect on who was involved,” he said.

“Once I opened the first page, I immediately witnessed so many familiar names of the families who have been involved in the Club for so many years, some of them held roles on the committee, and many still have family who are tied to the Club in some way.”

David Pahlke was contacted about the find, as he is known to have an interest in the history of Rosewood.

“As a member of Lions, I am currently liaising with the Lions members to purchase an appropriate display cabinet to donate to the Bowls Club so that the books can be on display,” he said.

“This will ensure all of the books are in safe keeping and they will be in public view at the bowls club for all families who visit to enjoy.”
