Karen Kington is the Singles and Pairs Champion for 2022

ROSEWOOD resident Karen Kington is celebrating taking home the 2022 Rosewood Bowls Club Pairs and Singles Championship titles, but says the friendships and fun that she has had along the way are her biggest win.

Karen has been involved in the Rosewood Club now for almost 25 years.

“Lawn bowls has provided me with a social network and over the years I have made many friends who are all great bowlers,” she said.

“I was introduced to the Rosewood Club through my parents Fred and June Hesketh who both really enjoyed lawn bowls, they have now passed on but I continue to keep their love for the game going.

“Bowls can be quite strategic and once the bowlers hit the green the competition is on, when it comes to who can get closest to the white bowl, also known as the kitty.

“I have learnt the rules and method of the game from other long-time bowlers who all have their own tricks and techniques, and I owe a lot of what I know to them.”

The sport has taken Karen all throughout Queensland and also to parts of New South Wales to compete and these trips are what she enjoys most as she also loves travel.

“Whether it be day trips or weekend getaways, I really enjoy seeing new places and bowls gives me the opportunity to do this while playing a game that I really enjoy,” she said.

“I have met many people and have made so many memories that I often recall to my friends and family, it has been a really good time.”

Her persistence and dedication to the game has recently paid off, and now she is the 2022 club Singles and Pairs Champion.

“Both games were played within the Rosewood Club against experienced and very talented bowlers,” she said.

“I was faced with a battle in both competitions and I was really pleased when I came home with the win.

“I want to congratulate all of the players who I went up against and also Joanne Marshall who was my partner in the pairs competition, I definitely was a little shocked, but to be honest, I am proud.”
