Students engage in Story Arts Festival

STUDENTS from Rosewood State School engaged their ‘inner creative’ when they took part in the 2022 Story Arts Festival that was held with authors, illustrators and teaching staff in an exercise involving book writing and illustration.

School Librarian and organiser of the event Kay Spann said the school community was exposed to poetry that was written into novels and learned that an author can work from home, in pyjamas, with a pet cat and dog as their assistants.

“We learned that some of the simple, delicate art that is used in books can tell a story without many words and some of the authors have based their books on their own life experiences.” she said.

“We were able to get a good laugh out of some of the author’s presentations and others taught us things that we never knew.

“The illustrators made fantastic drawings out of simple lines and squiggles and the students then came back to the classrooms to put some of these ideas to good use.

“Currently we are working on information reports about animals and plan to use some of the writing tips, planning and setting out that we learnt to complete these reports.”

Principal Georgia O’Shea acknowledged Mrs Stubbs, the volunteers, illustrators and authors for “creating such an amazing experience for the school at the festival”.

“Two of our favourite authors were Lee Fullarton and Nat Amoore, while Lee Fullarton amazed us with her awesome artwork, Nat Amoore made every single one of us laugh,” she said.

“Our students are now scrambling to find their favourite authors in our library and as a whole school we really appreciate this fantastic occasion that the students and staff loved attending.”
