West Moreton Health welcomes new docs on the block

THE newest intake of medical recruits has joined the ranks at West Moreton Health.

And Acting Chief Medical Officer Nilesh Parmar congratulated the 35 intern doctors on their successful appointment.

“Starting a hospital internship is a major and memorable milestone for any doctor,” Dr Parmar said.

“It is our privilege to help shape and support our newest junior doctors as they embark on medical careers dedicated to helping communities achieve the best possible health.”

The interns will join senior medical mentors to care for patients in general medicine, surgery, emergency medicine and additional elective terms in other specialised areas.

The 2023 intake also includes four rural generalist trainees.

Dr Parmar said almost 75 percent of 2022 medical interns had chosen to continue their medical careers at West Moreton Health this year.

“I think that is an indication of the fantastic learning and development experience we offer at West Moreton Health, but also the work we do to set up supportive structures around medical interns and other junior doctors to help them thrive in their roles, with a focus on their own health and wellbeing,” Dr Parmar said.

Chief Executive Hannah Bloch said it was an exciting time to join the organisation, with the new Acute Mental Health Unit and Ripley Satellite Hospital both due to open in 2023.

“West Moreton is a fast-growing region, and our infrastructure program focuses on expanded service accessibility, innovation and leadership in healthcare delivery,” Ms Bloch said.

Intern recruitment is a state-wide process that occurs annually, and allocations of interns across the state are determined through this process.

“The number of interns recruited has no correlation with the number of medical staff who have recently left the health service,” a West Moreton health spokeswoman said.
