Kokoda program

The Kokoda Foundation, On the Right Track program is in full swing with Rosewood Police, Rosewood High School staff and the Kokoda Foundation taking 12 Rosewood High students on weekly hikes to train for the 48 kilometre Kokoda Challenge in July.

Rosewood OIC Sgt Travis Ehrich reported that the students were gaining in fitness, confidence, leadership skills and team work while learning about the Anzac legends and honouring their values.

“So far the group has completed a 12 kilometre hike through Spicers Hidden Vale, next the group will increase their training to 15 kilometres, before the Flinders Peak Mountain hike is attempted.”

Entry to motor vehicles, Walloon

On May 15, and in the early hours of May 16, a number of vehicles and tradespersons’ tool trailers were broken into on Langland Street and Britten Street in Walloon.

A quantity of tools and electronic items were stolen. Police are in possession of CCTV footage of the offenders and enquiries are continuing.

Sgt Ehrich said it was a timely reminder to everyone to secure their vehicles and valuables, as the vast majority of these thefts were occurring to vehicles that had been left unlocked or with tools left unsecured in the tray of a ute or trailer.

“Thieves are generally lazy and opportunistic so let’s make it harder for them to steal your hard earned possessions,” he said.

Motor vehicle arson

Overnight on May 15, a Nissan Navara was parked by an unknown person on McGeary’s Road, Thagoona. The vehicle was set alight which caused major damage. Enquiries into the owner of the vehicle are ongoing.

Police are appealing for anyone with information regarding this event to call Crimestoppers or Rosewood Police.

Animal cruelty

Rosewood Police executed a search warrant at a Walloon address on May 12, after receiving information of animal cruelty involving a dog at the location.

As a result, Police seized a dog with assistance from the RSPCA.

A Walloon man, 55, was arrested and charged with possessing drug utensils and cruelty to animals.

He was bailed to appear in the Ipswich Magistrates Court on June 30.

Speeding

On May 12, officers from the Ipswich Highway Patrol charged a Toowong man, 19, with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, driving a defective vehicle and speeding.

Police will allege the man was hooning and conducting a burn-out on Karrabin Rosewood Road in Walloon in a dangerous manner.

The vehicle was impounded and the male person will appear in the Ipswich Magistrates Court.
