Rosewood History Group Founder David Pahlke has initiated a new plaque that has now been installed and highlights the history of the Seven Mile Bridge, on Ipswich Rosewood Road, Rosewood.
On July 23, 1968 the then Governor of Queensland Sir Alan Mansfield officially opened the new bridge, and a commemorative opening plaque was located on the bridge to highlight this significant piece of history.
Rosewood History Group Founder David Pahlke said that when he heard about the commemorate plaque, he went to search for it, resulting in it being nowhere to be found.
“I contacted Member for the Scenic Rim Jon Krause to find out the fate of the original plaque and requested that a new plaque be made and installed,” he said.
“Officers from the Department of Transport and Main Roads then investigated the matter and advised that the plaque was removed when the barriers leading up to the bridge were upgraded.”
As a result of the collective work from David Pahlke, MP Jon Krause and TMR a replacement plaque has now been installed at the entry of the carpark, next to the bridge.
“I want to thank MP Jon Krause and TMR for installing this new plaque, which is now in a safe place where families can enjoy the history of the bridge,” he said.
“This is a great outcome for the community, and also for the history of our township and the surrounding areas.”
