Harness Racing Australia has announced that premier driver, Peter McMullen dressed in green and gold silks will be Australia’s representative for harness racing in the World Driving Championship.

Peter has been the leading harness racing driver in Australia for the past two seasons hence being chosen to represent Australia.

This world championship will be held in three countries, the Netherlands, Germany and Belgium during August, with 10 drivers from 10 countries competing across 20 races.

Peters mother Jennette McMullen said that the family have always been involved in harness racing, with Peters grand father John McMullen Senior, being inducted into the hall of fame.

“Peter attended Glamorgan Vale primary school then went on to Lowood High School for his senior years, he has always loved horses,” she said.

“From the age of six, he has competed in the miniature trot races, he had his first race drive at 16 and now he has driven approximately 2750 winners.

“At age 23 in the 2021 racing season Peter drove 315 winners for the year, which is the most a Queenslander has ever driven in one season, and currently he holds the record as the youngest person to reach 1000 winners.

“In 2022, Peter again was named as Queensland’s leading driver with about 250 winners, he also won the Australian Drivers Premiership in 2021/2022.”

Away from the track Peter spends time with his wife Chantal and his two girls Rylee and Olivia together they run their property at Patick Estate which is known as a training showpiece.

“We are extremely proud of Peter, and are excited and happy for him, he is so deserving of all his success, because he works so hard to get to where he has so far,” she said.

“Now living his dream, which is to represent his country, we are all supporting him, and we look forward to seeing what he achieves in this elite competition.”
