2023 Nan Chauncy Award recipient Jenny Stubbs

The Children’s Book Council of Australia has announced Rosewood Resident Jenny Stubbs, as the 2023 recipient of the prestigious Nan Chauncy Award.

The Nan Chauncy Award honours individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to the field of Australian children’s literature and Jenny will be honoured at a special event in Brisbane on October 14, 2023.

Childrens Book Council of Australia National Chair Wendy Rapee said that it is fitting that the CBCA honour Jenny during the launch of Children’s Book Week for 2023.

“Volunteer advocates of reading like Jenny embed reading into our culture, and Jenny personifies all of the qualities and attributes to merit this award through her unparalleled commitment and significant achievements in the field,” she said.

“Jenny has dedicated her life to promoting and supporting children’s literature and she is a respected and much-loved legend in the world of Australian children’s literature.

“She is admired for her achievements and capacity to influence children, older students, authors, illustrators, and educators.”

Throughout Jennys life, she has had influential contributions in all of her roles as a teacher librarian for over 40 years, and she has also held many additional roles as a director, coordinator and member of different organisations and charities.

These organisations and charities include the CBCA Queensland branch, the Ipswich District Teacher Librarian Network, Queensland Books Links, the Australian School Library Association and the Queensland School Library Association.

Previous awards that Jenny has been recognised with include, the Dromkeen Librarians Award, the Dame Annabelle Rankin Award and the Johnno Award.
