EDUCATION Queensland has announced that the new $16 million dollar learning centre at Rosewood State High School will be named the Clyde Nicoll building in recognition of the leadership of the school’s former principal.
Mr Nicoll worked at the school from 1986 until his retirement in 1999 and held the role of Principal for 12 of those years.
Mr Nicoll said that when he found out that the building would be named in his honour, he was “absolutely blown away”.
“In 1986 I came on transfer from Dysart High School where I was principal,” he said.
“When I arrived at Rosewood High in 1986, my office was in A Block, until the Administration building was built.
“In this building the administration staff and support staff were housed, and there were meeting rooms and a common room for staff where messages and mail were left in pigeon holes.
“There was growth at Rosewood High and I was promoted in 1987 to the next level as the Principal.
“I was supported by my administration staff, Deputy Principal and the Senior Mistress, the Senior Mistress position was later upgraded to Deputy Principal.
“During my time at Rosewood High, the library was updated, two classrooms were added and the Student Centre was built.
“Also, as a member of the Rosewood Lions Club, I started up a Leo Club in the school, that provided an opportunity to any students who were interested to be involved in the community.
“The Leo Club operated for many years and it continued after I retired in July 1999, though due to lack of members it recently closed down.”
Mr Nicoll was excited to share the news of the naming of the new learning centre after him with his family.
“It is an honour and a privilege,” he said.
