$10M upgrade underway at Walloon State School

WORK is progressing on a new $9.7 million Learning Centre at Walloon State School.

The two storey learning centre will include four learning spaces, a large undercroft, a lift and associated facilities.

Building work began last month.

Ipswich West MP Jim Madden said that $300,000 had also been allocated to refurbish the schools Block G.

“In addition, a new two classroom prefabricated building was recently delivered to Walloon school to replace an existing building, and a new multipurpose court will be constructed for tennis, netball and basketball,” he said.

“The school is a fast-growing school with so many young families moving into the ever-expanding nearby Dawn Estate.

“As the population of the western corridor of Ipswich, from Karrabin to Rosewood, increases, the State government will continue to improve the facilities at the Walloon school as well as the other schools in the corridor, to cope with this population growth.”

School Principal Lisa Noonan said Mr Madden recently visited the school to meet with herself and school Captains Mataya Vassie and Lauren Wood to view the progress of the construction.

“The staff at the school are doing a great job coping with the inconvenience of two current construction sites at the school, and we are looking forward to seeing the finished results.”
