Rosewood golfer’s life memorialised at fundraising event

IT WAS a road trip to Cape York meticulously planned and excitedly awaited for two years but tragedy struck one day in when a horrific accident ended the life of Ebenezer man Malcolm Brown, and changed the lives of his loved ones forever.

Malcolm, his wife Michelle and friends Peter and Leeanne had just started their eagerly anticipated trip of a lifetime when the unexpected happened in the rural town Injune.

It claimed Malcolm’s life and introduced the Royal Flying Doctor service to his family and friends.

Last week an event at Rosewood Golf Club was held to honour his memory and raise money for the service.

“My father was an avid golfer who frequently played at the Rosewood Golf Club with my brother,” said daughter Sharna Sharpe.

“The trip was intended to be the beginning of his adventures around Australia.

“In honour of Malcolm, his close friends Terry Bayles and Peter Gibbson as well as other friends and family members, organised the golf day.”

The golf day also served as a fundraiser for Royal Flying Doctors Queensland, raising $9,000 for the worthy cause.

“The flying doctor service sector played a significant role in supporting his wife and family following the accident,” she said.

“Dr Rich and nurse Dianne from the Charleville base kept the family updated on his condition and assisted in flying him and Michelle back to Brisbane from Roma as all the family members were in Rosewood.”

Malcolm’s uncle, Malcolm Brown Senior, is an Indigenous artist and designed a t-shirt and stubby cooler with the help of Blue Dog Sports in Laidley.

All proceeds from the sale of these items were donated to the Royal Flying Doctor Service.

All up 128 players took part in the Malcolm Brown Memorial Golf Day.
