Consistent Rosewood bowls champions honoured

HAVING played in and watched many championships over the years, Rosewood Bowls Club president Terry Hobden knows what is required to win.

“You’ve got to have your bowls skill and you’ve got to have your consistency as well to be up there amongst the top echelon,” Terry said.

That was the case after the latest club champions were decided at the Mill Street greens.

“There were some pretty close games throughout the season,” Hobden said.

“Our club championships are one of the most important events throughout the year.”

Newcomer Keith McLeish won his first singles club championship title after months of rounds going back to October last year.

Pairs combination Mickey Holden and 2023-2024 singles champion Sean Keidge won consecutive championships as did the triples team of Sean, Mickey and Wendy Fielding.

The 2024-2025 fours champions were Noel Joy, Robert ‘Beastie’ Franklin, Greg James and Richard Crawford.

Terry also acknowledged President’s Plate winner Gary Jackson, who is a relative club newcomer.

The section winners were honoured at a recent club presentation day.

A badge presentation was made to the club champions and the juniors who competed in their own competition.

Club officials appreciated a visit by special guest, Ipswich councillor Jim Madden.

The 2025/26 club championships are expected to start in November after next month’s AGM.

Among upcoming events are the Marshall Family Memorial Day in honour of former club president, providor, vice-president and secretary Nigel.

Nigel was a popular member of the club for many years before his passing nearly two years ago.

Nigel’s daughter Joanne Marshall is the current Rosewood club secretary, taking over from her dad.

Joanne said the memorial day in October would welcome family involvement and friends.

Three teams of four Rosewood club bowlers are also contesting the latest pennants series, against opponents from around South East Queensland.

The pennants continue for some weeks on Saturdays.
