A MARBURG couple were lucky to spot an Eastern Brown slither up and into the wheel arch of their car.
Had they not seen it only for it appear while they were driving, this story could have had a different ending.
They phoned Ipswich Snake Catchers Nat and Kurt Whyte to catch the stowaway and relocate it.
“Our clients had the fright of their lives when they saw the snake go into their car,” Nat said.
“It is highly venomous and a reminder of how sneaky and clever these snakes can be.
“When we arrived, we spotted it tucked into the left side of the engine bay.
“As we started removing covers, it vanished. We caught a glimpse of it behind the front grill, and then … nothing.”
The professional snake catchers persevered and their patience paid off.
“After searching high and low, under the car and around the engine bay, there it was,” she said.
“That cheeky Eastern Brown had wedged itself perfectly between the foam and crash bar, totally hidden from sight.
“With a bit of patience and a few tight angles, we managed a safe and successful relocation.”
The reptile relocation experts said the cat and mouse tricks played by snakes were a reminder of how clever snakes can be.
