Proposal for 164 place childcare centre at Walloon

A CHILDCARE centre is planned for a property at Walloon.

In a two-pronged approach, Petrie Projects Pty Ltd, are hoping to gain approval from the Ipswich City Council to first subdivide the 1.8ha property at 548 Karrabin Rosewood Road into two lots.

One lot, measuring 1.2ha, would contain the existing home and outbuildings, while the second lot, measuring 5,188sqm, is the intended site of the childcare centre.

But for the centre to go ahead, the developer needs Council to approve the rezoning of the new lot to ‘Community Use Childcare Centre’.

The next step will be to gain the relevant approvals to construct the childcare centre.

According to the applicant: “The centre will employ 22 staff supervising up to 164 children across eight activity rooms catering to four age groups (0–24 months, 2–3 years, 4 years, and 5 years).”

Two outdoor play areas are also planned.

The proposed design also includes 43 parking spaces, comprising 22 staff spaces (nine in tandem), 21 customer spaces including one space for people with disabilities, and five bicycle parking spaces.

Council planners are currently reviewing the proposed development.
