New Rosewood Police Station open for business

BLACK Friday may be considered by some to be unlucky, but it’s likely that the officers who moved into their new workplace in Rosewood on Friday had a definite bounce in their step.

Construction of the $4 million facility was completed on Monday, September 9, became fully operational on Friday, September 13 and opened for business on Monday, September 16.

The build of the new station has attracted a lot of attention particularly when it appeared to be completed followed by scaffolding being erected around the façade again.

It was a hiccough caused, according to a Queensland Police Services spokesperson, by an “installation error by the builders and was adjusted at no cost to the Police Service”.

The door on the new building was opened to the public almost a year to the day when officers and staff from the station began relocating to where they would share a workplace with the Marburg Police.

The Rosewood station’s operating strength currently numbers eight officers.

This is expected to be increased by another three officers before the end of this financial year according to an announcement made by the Police Minister, Mark Ryan in February.

The Minister, accompanied by senior police officers, is expected to officially open the new facility before the end of this month.

The Rosewood Police Station project has involved the demolition of the old station building, the renovation of the heritage-listed police residence and its relocation within the boundaries of the property.
