Burgers bring men to health expo

THE way to a man’s heart is through his stomach so free burgers were a great way to get men to a well-being expo, especially considering twice as many men experience heart attacks compared to women.

Last week the Rosewood Men’s Health and Well-being Expo was held at the Uniting Church.

“The Rosewood and District Support Centre hold this event every year,” community project worker Tia Lancaster said.

“The purpose is to highlight the need for self-care and encourage men to acknowledge what is going on for them and to seek the support they need.

“Doing this can lead to diagnosis and treatment that may extend and improve the quality of their lives.”

Those at the event had access to stalls run by organisations that have an emphasis on men’s health.

They were treated to a goodie bag upon arrival, filled with information and a handful of freebies, on behalf of organisations that support men’s health.

The men tucked into burgers and listened to a panel of experts who spoke on topics around the issue of men’s health.

“The purpose is to demystify and normalise issues that can occur for men and provide connections to the resources and services they may need,” Tia said.

“There is so much information out, but a lot of this is online, which can be a barrier.

“By bringing the stallholders and experts to our community we are starting the conversation and making the connection.”

The community event was made possible thanks to the Rosewood and District Support Centre and its team of volunteers.

Anyone who was unable to attend the event and is interested in men’s health, can collect a goodie bag from the Rosewood Community Centre while stocks last.
