Not again … church shed ransacked, contents stolen

IT’S hard to comprehend the mindset of thieves who target charities for a quick and easy five finger discount.

Rosewood Uniting Church has been the target of heartless criminals twice during the past weeks.

Its garden shed was broken into over the weekend and around three weeks ago, its charity shop was robbed.

Volunteer Joyce Rieck and those who work tirelessly to help others, were distressed and appalled it’d happened to their church again.

Joyce said the latest break in was to the shed at the back of the church.

“It was very securely locked with a steel pipe across the door with two padlocks,” she said.

“On Monday afternoon, it was discovered that the pipe and the padlocks were missing.

“[The thieves] took the Honda ride-on mower, two weedeaters, a blower and the fuel container.”

The first break in happened at the Goodwill Op Shop operated by the church.

Among other things, it caused damage to a door that was expensive to fix.

“They came prepared to break in because they would have needed tools to destroy the lock and barrel bolt that were on that door,” Joyce said at the time.

Now the shed has been targeted and volunteers and the Rosewood community as a whole, are distressed.

There was also concern as to how they’ll be able to replace what was taken, never mind fixing the broken doors and locks.

“Rosewood prides itself on being a safe, supportive community,” she said.

“When something like this happens, the mood changes and people start to doubt their neighbours.”
