New Station build progress update

Progress is now really ramping up with the roof trusses erected and the roof expected to go on any day now!

As some residents may have seen we had a minor hiccup with one of the construction materials delivery trucks becoming extremely bogged on-site which closed Railway Street for several hours and required a heavy crane to extract it.

The expected completion date for the new station is now August, this year.

New officer

We welcome Senior Constable Isaac Collihole to the Rosewood Police Station team. Isaac brings with him a wealth of knowledge after transferring from the Ipswich District Tactical Crime Squad but is looking forward to the many rewards that Country Policing brings.

Stu and Cheryl are still currently available for all your Queensland Transport and Weapons Licencing enquiries at Marburg Station.

These hours will be the usual hours of Monday to Friday 8.00am to 4.00pm.

Rosewood Station’s phone number has been diverted to Marburg so you can call the same numbers as previously.

The number to call in an emergency is 000.

For non-urgent matters please call 131444.

Copper cable thefts

There has been several instances of offenders targeting the Telstra pits in the Rosewood and Walloon area.

The offenders access the pits and remove large quantities of the copper cable.

In the process, the offenders often damage the fibre optic cable which then leads to internet outages and hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of damage.

Police are asking residents to report any person seen parked near a Telstra cable pit (often in rural roadside locations) to take down registration numbers and report them to police.

Break and enters

Over the weekend of May 4 and 5, there were a series of break and enters to business premises in the Rosewood CBD.

The Barber shop, the Uniting Church goodwill shop and St Brigids School were all unlawfully entered and various items were stolen.

Anyone with information regarding these events are urged to contact Police.

Kokoda ‘On the right Track’ program

Rosewood and Harrisville Stations have again partnered with the Kokoda Foundation to participate in the ‘On the right track’ youth program at Rosewood State High School.

This program selects 12 students from the Rosewood High School and takes them on a day hike, one each week, to various locations in South East Queensland for 12 weeks.

During these sessions the Kokoda Kids are put through gruelling steep bush hikes and team building sessions and they learn leadership skills, resilience and the principles of character shown by the Aussie troops during the Kokoda campaign.

These hikes culminate with the team completing the 48km Gold Coast Kokoda Challenge in July.

The Challenge is then followed by a further 12 weeks of community service activities and a trip to the Northern Territory in September.

The program has now begun so stay tuned for photos and updates regarding the Kokoda Kids progress.
