Long awaited upgrades are apace at the Marburg track

TWO projects are now complete by Marburg Pacing Association and Racing Queensland to bring the Marburg racing facility up to current requirements for a racing venue in Queensland.

The first project, at the Association’s venue in the Marburg Showgrounds, is the new judges, broadcaster and video cameraman tower, and the second project is the driver’s facility. Both were funded to the total of $575,000 dollars by Racing Queensland.

Association Vice President Denis Smith said the buildings were transportable and represented a significant investment in harness racing in the Marburg-Ipswich footprint.

“This investment is well justified by the presence of over 120 harness trainers within a 30 kilometre radius of the Marburg Showgrounds, which is by far the greatest concentration of harness participants anywhere in the greater South East region,” he said.

“Our landlords, the Marburg Show Society, will also benefit with an excellent judges and ringmaster’s facility for the annual Marburg Show, and the new facilities will be a benefit during other significant events held throughout the year.

“It was envisaged that the driver’s facility would double as public toilet for caravanners on a non-race day basis, but additional landings, railings, and an access ramp will be required before this can be achieved.

“We are looking forward to further upgrades at the grounds that are set to take place in 2024.”
