Rosewood Craft and Quilters group show off creative displays

Last weekend the Rosewood Showground Hall came to life with a vibrant and creative display of crafts and quilts for the 2023 Rosewood Craft and Quilters Quilt Show.

The theme for the event was butterflies, with a total of about $5000 dollars that was raised throughout the weekend event, donated to the Ipswich Hospice.

The Ipswich Hospice is a community owned and operated not-for-profit organisation that provides palliative care for residents of the Ipswich and surrounding areas whilst supporting their loved ones and families.

Members from the Rosewood Craft and Quilters prepared for this annual event, spending many weeks and even months creating over 100 quilts that were on show for the community to enjoy.

Also, on display were crocheted items, bags, embroidery, stump work, black work, knitted items and many other handmade crafts.

The Rosewood group holds a rich history, that started from like-minded ladies meeting together to share fellowship and their creations about 60 years ago.

President of the Rosewood Craft and Quilters Group Eunice Austin said that the group enjoys creating quilts that are donated to many organisations, individuals and groups.

“We donate to Cabanda Care in Rosewood, Nolenville Nursing Home in Flinders View, the Brisbane Childrens Hospital, the Dialysis Unit at the Ipswich Hospital and many other community-based places like the ambulance and the fire brigade,” she said.

“Also, we donate love quilts for babies who die after birth and we participate in many activities and raffles to raise monies for organisations that help others.

“Over the years the group started to expand, and as a result of needing more room we have utilised many spaces within the Rosewood area.

“After moving around to different spaces, we are now settled at the Rosewood Showgrounds Hall, where we meet regularly to enjoy each other’s company, whilst sharing our ideas and creations.”

Consisting of about 40 members the group is all about the concept of paying it forward, their creations of colour and talent are delivered with an aim to brighten the lives of others who may be going through challenging times.
