Rosewood High students enter the next phase of the Kokoda Foundation challenge

Rosewood State High School students have joined with members of the Rosewood RSL Sub Branch to take part in the community service phase of the Kokoda Foundation Challenge.

Rosewood State High School Student Wellbeing Youth Worker Cassie Ewings, has been working closely with all of the students involved in this program.

Cassie said that Rosewood RSL members shared stories and personal memorabilia to demonstrate the diversity of roles in the services and to bring attention to wars that are not well-know.

“All of the students engaged in activities with the Rosewood RSL members, which included creating a banner for Vietnam Veterans Day, the Rosewood RSL then provided a lunch for everyone to enjoy.

“Other community service activities include track maintenance at Spicer’s Hidden Vale with a theme of giving, baking biscuits at the Rosewood CWA hall to share with local firefighters which is a way to show gratitude for their services and cleaning the Girl Guide hall with the Rosewood Community Centre.

“Assembling wooden toys with the Rosewood Men’s Shed to be sold at Christmas and maintaining community gardens with Donna Hanlon from the Rosewood Community Centre will also take place.”

Once the community service phase is complete, students will be congratulated for their dedication to the Kokoda challenge through celebrations.

“As a team we will all enjoy our peak experience, which is a five day all expenses paid experience that will take place in September this year at Cairns, where students will experience cultural activities,” she said.

“This peak experience will conclude with a graduation ceremony where parents and families will join with the students to congratulate them on completing the Kokoda challenge.”
