Poetry Corner – Showtime

Step right up, and pay the fare,

As city and country folk assemble

From everywhere.

The once a year tradition,

Is on once more,

Something, which, from small children,

We have always looked for.

The Ekka, is what it is affectionally called,

By one and all.

Where many people meet,

To share their talents and walk tall.

When diets are put on hold,

As dagwood dogs and ice cream sundaes,

Are the order of the day.

Consumed by everyone, young and old.

A place where people reunite,

I know it was where my father,

Would meet with his wartime

Buddies every year!

And, who can resist the fireworks,

Which are held each night?

The centre point of all this,

Would have to be the centre ring,

Where people and animals meet to do their thing,

Showbags, now there’s something no one can resist,

Children are busy making a list,

Step right up and pay the fare,

And be prepared to meet people from everywhere!
