ROSEWOOD police have partnered with the Kokoda Youth Foundation and the Rosewood High School in a program called, ‘Kokoda Challenge, On the Right Track’.
The program targets Year 8 and Year 9 students.
It is run over a six month period and involves activities such as community engagement, bushwalks, camping, hiking, canoeing and other team activities that will be concluded with a trip to North Queensland.
On June 3, Rosewood Police OIC, Sgt Travis Ehrich, Rosewood High students and staff and Kokoda Foundation leaders took part in an 18-kilometre challenge at Brookfield in Brisbane, as part of the program.
Sgt Ehrich said that more than 800 students from other schools across South East Queensland also participated in this event.
“This was a great event with terrain that was extremely rugged and challenging but the students pushed through the pain and in some cases, blisters, to cross the finish line in approximately five hours,” he said.
“This event provides a combination of life skill lessons, physical activity and new friends for the selected young people who will be challenged outside of their comfort zone while they engage in this program.”
As they continue with the program, the team are working on building resilience as they set goals to complete the 48 kilometre Kokoda Challenge that will take place during July.
