Two nights that packed a punch in Walloon

THE beating of a big bass drum echoed through the Walloon Hotel carpark last weekend as Fred Brophy stood on a raised platform outside his famous boxing tent, to introduce his Brophy boxing troupe in between chanting, ‘who wants a fight’.

Brave volunteers put up their hand to take on the Brophy boxers before they were also welcomed to the platform to be matched with their opponent.

Each volunteer boxer and Brophy boxer was introduced to the crowd, backgrounded by the rallying cries of Fred Brophy that escalated the excitement before everyone entered the tent, to watch a night of boxing in the ring.

Brophy boxers had personalities that matched their outfits and stage names, Afro Savage, Kid Valentine, Digger and female boxer Beaver were among the number.

With each punch thrown, the crowd roared with excitement and cheered on the boxers who took part in a three-round match.
