The sparkle of a diamond anniversary

THEY describe themselves as “soulmates and best friends” and the proof is in the years they have spent together – Colin and Margaret Krause have been together for 60 years.

The couple celebrated their Diamond wedding anniversary on Thursday, May 11.

They were married by Rev Graham Hall in the Rosewood Congregational Church on May 11, 1963.

Colin and Margaret were both born in St Kilda’s hospital, Rosewood and have lived in Rosewood all their lives.

Colin worked on his parent’s farm at Lanefield, before working at the Jacaranda Dairy Factory in Booval for 34 year.

Margaret worked in the dining room at the North Ipswich Railway Workshops until they were married.

The couple met when Colin’s brother Ken met Margaret’s sister Shirley who were later married. Colin and Margaret’s first date was at a local dance, and from that day they would never be apart.

Not venturing too far from their childhood homes, the couple built their own house on Walloon Road, Rosewood next door to Margaret’s parents and three houses down from Colin’s parents.

This was a blessing for both their parents, who did not have a car, as Margaret would assist with shopping and appointments and Colin carried out the maintenance on the homes.

Colin had the gift of water divining and he fenced many paddocks around the area. He was always a hard worker, and at times he would share this God given gift for free.

Together they raised three children, Charmaine, Deborah and Brett, who in turn married Colin, Anthony and Michelle, respectively. Colin and Margaret now have six grandchildren Katrina, Nathan, Rebecca, James, Ethan and Ebony.

They have enjoyed their involvement in the community including the Pensioners League, Meals on Wheels and the Rosewood Uniting church.

During the years, Colin has been the maintenance man, and they both cleaned the hall for many years. Margaret also loved working at the Rosewood Goodwill shop.

On their anniversary, they were surprised when they received congratulations from Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, other members of parliament and from King Charles III and Queen Camilla.

The couple are described as family orientated, caring, giving and loving people who were destined to be together.
