Fascinating finds on local property

Ebenezer property owner, Trish Greenhill, recently opened the gates of her property to a group of friends who share an interest in semi-precious stones and rocks.

They were invited in to enjoy some fossicking.

Trish has researched the geological history of Ebenezer and its surrounding areas for some years. The area lies within the Jurassic Belt.

“I have a real interest in the land and what the history it holds, which began at an early age and continued through days out travelling with my father who was a TAFE educator and my mother who was a geologist,” she said.

“Together we would take trips to new places, searching for rocks, stones and anything of interest to the particular site and I found it interesting and very exciting when I came across something different.

“This interest grew and for over 20 years I have collected semi-precious rocks and stones such as petrified wood, agate, jasper and crystals.

“Once I collect these semi-precious treasures, I clean them, cut them on a diamond saw and polish them, they can then be put on display in your home or made into beautiful pieces of jewellery.”

This passion has been a huge part of Trish’s life and she often shares her knowledge to other like-minded people who want to be educated during a day out fossicking.

“I often invite people to my property at Ebenezer and also to another property that I have near Kingaroy.

“We spend the day outside learning about the land, the history and then set off to search for semi-precious stones and rocks.

“The Jurassic belt runs from Springfield through to Toowoomba and the Rosewood and surrounding areas are in that line, so there are many interesting finds along the way.

Trish described the most recent day of fossicking on her Ebenezer property as a “really lovely day, as together we learnt about the geology of the land, and we learnt how to identify a semi-precious rock and where they can be located.

Every town has a site where you can fossick, and every place has an interesting history and when you are on your travels keep a close eye out for where you may be able to spend a day out searching for interesting treasures from the past.”
