Shining Light on St Brigid’s School centenary

As part of the celebrations for the 100th birthday of St Brigid’s Catholic Primary School, a school song was written to showcase the story and history of the school.

School Principal Duane Wann, said that when he was planning the yearly school calendar one of the highlights for the year ahead was the Josh Arnold, Small Town Culture song writing experience.

“This feature was welcomed with joy and excitement with the arrival of Josh who came to the school to generate ideas and to collaborate a draft of the new St Brigid’s school song,” he said.

“Children were selected to sing, perform and then to produce the film clip with the school song that was sung throughout the entire production.

“Throughout the process the children acknowledged the song writing process as it was not as easy as it sounds to make it all come together.

“It is extremely challenging and requires creativity, imagination and persistence, however to say I am proud of the students in this project would be a gross understatement.

“All of the students worked tirelessly on the lyrics over two days to create amazing songs and the school song was titled, ‘Shining Light’.

“It is a song that contains deep and profound lyrics and in my opinion the students have worked with Josh to create a masterpiece.”

Mr Wann described the song as symbolic of the lives that the students live within the school grounds.

“It tells the story of our school, our culture and what we strive to live by each day,” he said.

“It also tells the story of our children and their place in the community.

“A special way to portray the unique characteristics each and every one of our children have, that all contribute to being a Shining Light.”

The next phase of the 100 Year Celebrations will be the School Musical which shares the contemporary story of St Brigid of Ireland, together with the mission of the Mercy Sisters in establishing the school.
