Every Friday a ‘be kind day’ at Rosewood State School

A KINDNESS movement has been instigated at the Rosewood State School

The school used National Day of Action Against Bullying and Violence day on March 18 to introduce the kindness movement based on the belief that bullying can be overcome by being kind.

“We held a special assembly on the NDA day with the rest of the nation who were also acknowledging Anti-Bullying Day and it was fantastic to see so many community members dressed in orange attend our event,” said Principal Nicole Sherlock.

“Staff participated in ‘being kind’ activities such as buying coffees for each other, bringing treats to share and they participated in random acts of kindness.

“This has really introduced a kindness culture and we want to spread the word, so we have introduced, Be Kind Day, which will be held each Friday to acknowledge being kind to others and the staff will wear orange on this day.

“Parents and community members are also being encouraged to wear a Be Kind shirt on Fridays, and we hope to see families within the community also wearing these shirts to share our message.

“A permanent hamper station has also been installed in our foyer for families to donate non perishable items that will then be collected to give to local organisations and the first hamper will go to the Rosewood Community Centre.”

The school community raised more than $600 from the sale of orange cupcakes which will be donated to the Dolly’s Dream foundation.
