A colourful message of hope on Day for Daniel

A SEA of red at Haigslea and Grandchester schools was seen on the annual National Day of Action for Child Safety as students and school staff dressed in memory of Daniel Morcombe.                 The day is held in October each year and encourages parents, carers and educators to start the conversation with children about personal safety and awareness.

Grandchester School Principal Lorraine Topp said that child safety is so important and at their school they include the Daniel Morcombe unit into their health unit and fundraise toward the cause each year.

“Staff are passionate about this cause and make this a community event to raise money and awareness,” she said.

“On the day we received a visit from the Fire Brigade and had an obstacle course which made the afternoon lots of fun.

“I give a big shout out to all of the parents who donated and the staff who gave their own time to make this an awesome event.”

Haigslea School Principal Emily Robinson said the school received a visit from Senior Constable Bec Schafferius from the Lowood Police Station who talked about safety.

“Our school raised over $100 and we were proud to have taken part in this great cause.”
