Plaque replacement at Haigslea lawn cemetery under review

THE replacement of the plaque stolen from the pedestal outside the Haigslea cemetery is ‘under review’ by the Ipswich City Council.

The plaque was stolen last month from beside the Haigslea cemetery.

It commemorated the presence of a Lutheran church and congregation in the area. The church was consecrated in 1873 and the congregation was established circa 1866.

A Council spokesman said that the theft was reported to police and the congregation of St Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Rosewood were informed.

“The matter has been passed on to council’s internal audit area for any further investigation and Council is currently seeking a quote on the cost to replace the plaque.”

Bob Krause, a member of the Rosewood Lutheran Church congregation, holds onto documents and a photo from the original church.
