Thousands flock to Rosewood’s Christmas Festival

THERE were options galore for children at this year’s Rosewood Christmas Festival.

Little ones were kept busy enjoying free carnival rides and activities.

There was rock climbing, jumping castles and face painting, and as if that wasn’t enough, balloon artist Johnny the Jester entertained with his skilful bag of tricks.

Community Project Worker Tia Lancaster said around 2,000 came to the event co-ordinated by the Rosewood and District Support Centre.

“It was made possible with the support of amazing community volunteers, the SES and fire department,” she said.

“Ipswich City Council Community Events funding paid for the free rides and children’s activities.

“We also had in-kind assistance from Kennards Bundamba who donated the lighting.”

Live music worked a treat as all the classic Australian Christmas songs were played for a toe tapping crowd.

Of course, a Christmas celebration is not complete without a visit from the big man himself.

Santa Claus made his entrance in a fire truck and children were able to sit on his lap for their annual happy snap.

Rosewood Community Garden ran wreath making workshops, there was a colouring in competition and other DIY stalls.

“The Rosewood Christmas Festival was a great success,” Tia said.

“This the third time we have run this event for the community and each year it gets better.

“We are grateful for all the support we receive from volunteers, Rosewood SES and the Rosewood Fire department, without their support this event couldn’t happen. Ipswich City Council Mayor Teresa Harding and Councillors Jim Madden and David Martin were also at the event.
