Acknowledging outstanding community volunteers

THREE dedicated community volunteers were nominated for the 2025 Rosewood Lions Citizen of the year.

A function to celebrate their service was hosted by the Lions club on the Australia Day holiday.

MC and Lion stalwart, Clyde Nicoll, applauded the contribution made by each of the nominees before announcing that the title of the 2025 Citizen of the Year had been awarded to Philio Bird from Ebenezer.

Philio is a member of the Rosewood Uniting Church and active in its adult fellowship.

“She helps with their catering and also volunteers two days a month in the Goodwill Op Shop,” Clyde advised those gathered for the event.

“Philio in her working life was a community nurse and social worker.

“She has continued to support people in need to build up their self-esteem.”

She also teaches knitting, crocheting, felting and embroidery.

Philio has also been a qualified Justice of the Peace for more than 30 years and has delivered Meals on Wheels.
