Chloe wins Youth of the Year regional finals

ROSEWOOD Lions Youth of the Year, Chloe Butler, won the Regional finals of the competition on Saturday (March 15).

Chloe, a Year 11 student at West Moreton Anglican College, won against strong competition from Fassifern Lions Youth of the Year, Robert Williams and the Boonah Lions Youth of the Year, Bridget Muller.

The Regional finals event was hosted by the Lions Club of Rosewood.

“All the contestants engaged with the impromptu questions and answered them clearly and while the questions gave many opportunities to waiver, they all stuck to the one theme in their answers which reflected good logical and clear thinking,” reports Bruce Richards from the Rosewood Club.

“As an audience member it was great to hear concise and logical thoughts expressed.

The final component of the contest was the prepared speeches.

“These speeches had a time frame and the contestants could choose the topic and it was obvious that each chose a subject that they were passionate about,” Mr Richards said. “Each speech was inspiring and a great reflection that if these students are the leaders of tomorrow, we are in good hands.

“Like all contests there must be a winner and runners up”

The winner of Public Speaking was Chloe Butler and she also took out the overall Regional section of the competition.

“All entrants are to be praised for the effort, presentation and energy that they displayed,” Mr Richards continued.

He acknowledged all the volunteers who had been responsible for making the event a success.

“We must firstly thank the judges Tony Lindsay and Member for Ipswich West Wendy Bourne for their time, engaging with the students and expressing their words of encouragement to all present after the winners were announced.

“To Lions Josephine and Lyall and fellow Lions members for organising the venue, catering and supporting the event which made it a pleasure to be a Lions member giving back to the community in a small way.”

Chloe will now represent the Region at the District Finals hosted by the Brisbane Pinelands Lions Club at Runcorn on Saturday (March 22).
