THE Q at Purga held its first greyhound races last Friday.
The facility hosted a 12-race program with the maiden meeting held on one-turn track Ladbrokes Q1 Lakeside.
Trialling on the Ladbrokes Q Straight and Q2 Parklands tracks will start in coming weeks, with The Q to open to the public next month.
Racing Minister Tim Mander said the State Government would “strengthen the long-term viability and integrity of all racing codes, while delivering modern and fit-for-purpose racing infrastructure”.

RQ Acting CEO Lachlan Murray said The Q would now prepare for the Queensland Winter Greyhound Racing Carnival.
The Carnival will feature seven race meetings, with the program of races expected to be released this week.
• Civil earthworks began at the Purga site in early 2023, with construction getting underway later in the same year which has blown out in cost to $86 million, almost double the forecast $44 million.
