THERE’S excitement in the air as the Marburg Show draws near, and with it, a brand new president.
Brian Heath is three months into the job and said experience with Marburg’s Garden Expo stood him in good stead come show time.
“I am also being led by some very capable, experienced hands and appreciate the work of others in the committee,” he said.
“I didn’t have any idea what it was going to be like, but it’s just a matter of being willing to work and be part of a team.
“There are people around me who have been there for a long time. I’m rolling up my sleeves and helping out wherever they need me to.”
The Pine Mountain resident said he’d been to the Marburg Show in the past and enjoyed what it offered.
“There is a lot more going on behind the scenes, things I’d not thought of,” he said.
“The amount of work done behind the scenes, is just phenomenal.
“There are legal requirements and scheduling, it takes a lot of time in preparation and planning to get to Show Day.”
Brian and his wife are originally from Grafton in New South Wales.
The couple moved to be close to their children and grandchildren.
“We were the only two in the family left in Grafton so we followed them here,” he laughed.
“I’m retired. I was a school teacher and finished up as a school principal at South Grafton High School.
“I then worked at an orchid nursery for six years and retired in 2020.”
He said Marburg was a small community but one where residents looked out for each other.
“We work together as a team and the people here are fabulous to work with,” he said.
“I’m also impressed by the willingness of the community to be involved in expanding or advancing what’s happening in the community.”
He said the philosophy of the show society was to support the community through events that pulled them together in unity.
“Showtime is when all the very best of Marburg is on display for everyone to enjoy.”
