The power of technology sparks a special friendship

FORMER Rosewood resident Thel Jacobs who now lives in Beerwah recently reconnected with a long lost school friend.

Thel [nee Coleman] said she began to research the local history group which led her to her childhood friend Judy Turner [nee Whitehead] who she had met in school at Rosewood.

The ladies attended Rosewood High School in 1965 and became close friends.

“We shared many great times together and after I graduated from school, I left Rosewood and moved to Ipswich with my husband Gaven, Judy remained in Rosewood and worked in the bakery,” she said.

“I went on with my life with Gaven and my children, it was such a busy time and I lost contact with Judy.

“Now only this year I received a message from her brother David, which led to Judy reaching out to me.”

The reconnection was especially meaningful to Thel because in 1975 she received news that Judy had passed away.

“I was gobsmacked, absolutely blown away as I had grieved for so long over the loss of my great friend,” she said.

“Now since reconnecting we have been messaging each other as there are so many lost years to catch up on.

“I just had to send this message of thanks to the history group from the bottom of my heart, because if it were not for this group, I would have never have reconnected with my great school friend.”
