A whole new look for St Brigids School

A half-a-million-dollar-upgrade is currently underway at St Brigids Catholic Primary School with the construction of a new entrance, landscaping and special features underway.

An entrance giving access to both the school and the church has been planned for many years and now with the combination of funds from Brisbane Catholic Education and the school the vision is becoming a reality.

“St Brigids is a beautiful little school that will be complemented by the upgrade of this front entrance feature,” said Principal Duane Wann.

“The project is primarily being funded by Brisbane Catholic Education with the assistance of the school.

“It is estimated to cost $500,000 and it is expected to be complete by the end of this year.

“A new roadway will lead to a more efficient and workable stop, drop and go system to ease congestion and to enhance a smooth traffic flow at school drop off and pick up times.”

Other improvements include a river rock feature, large gardens beds, trees, landscaping, a stone wall feature at the front entrance with the school’s name on it and an up to date electronic sign.

It is estimated that more than 80 percent of the current school families use the stop, drop and go area to drop off and pick up their children

“Stop, drop and go is important to the school because it makes it easier for parents and carers to drop off and pick up their children efficiently and safely,” Mr Wann said.

“I am very happy to see this take place.

“Our present and past staff at our school have all worked really hard to bring this into fruition, and Brisbane Catholic Education have been amazing in supporting us.”

“It will definitely be aesthetically pleasing as families, staff and visitors enter the school grounds.”

Included in the planned works is the relocation of the war memorial that is currently located at the front entrance of the school.

“Our memorial will be relocated to the back of the hall area,” Mr Wann explained.

“We are fortunate to have this sacred monument to be able to hold Anzac and Remembrance Day services at our school.

“It is important to pay our respects and to pay tribute to the fallen and current servicemen and women of our country and we are grateful to be able to do this together as a school community.”
