New facilities, a ramp and a cooler school at Haigslea

WORK was recently completed at Haigslea State School on a $750,000 amenities block, outdoor learning centre and disability access ramps.

The works are a part of an overall investment of $220 million in state schools right across Queensland to improve school facilities whilst supporting more than 720 jobs.

The amenities block includes new male and female toilets, as well as a laundry for students and staff to access.

Member for Ipswich West, Jim Madden, said he was pleased to be given a tour by Principal, Emily Robinson, of the new work.

“I know this has been on top of the school’s infrastructure priority list for a while, so it is fantastic to see the work completed,” he said.

“Often these common use areas, like amenities and administration blocks, fall to the bottom of the funding priority list.

“Amenities blocks see so much school traffic, day in day out, so it is really pleasing that the school now a has modern, state of the art facility.

“The outdoor learning centre provides an inventive and stimulating play area for the students and it even has a reticulated creek and Astro turf area.”

The Haigslea State School Parents and Citizen’s Association was recently rewarded for all of its hard work with a Gambling Community Benefit Fund Grant of $35,000, to assist with the cost of a new $60,000 playground at the school.

P&C President Erin Davis said the replacement playground has been the main fundraising goal for more than nine years.

“After numerous sausage sizzles, the grant came as quite a relief to the association as it gives us the funds to complete the new playground,” she said.

In addition to the new buildings and play equipment, the school is now fully air-conditioned and the play areas are now under shade.
