ST BRIGID’S Catholic Primary School took part in the annual Ipswich Rugby 7’s competition organised by the Ipswich Rangers Rugby Union Club with schools competing from Education Queensland, Catholic Education and Independent Systems.
Principal Duane Wann said that the school was represented by senior boys, junior boys and junior girls teams.
“As we are a small school it is always very difficult to compete with the larger schools which include Ipswich Girls Grammar and St Mary’s Primary schools,” he said.
“In order to ensure we had a team for our junior girl’s team, three girls from West Moreton Anglican College joined our team.
“And at the conclusion of the day this combined team, who had never played together or played rugby before, were crowned with the Junior Girls Rugby 7’s Champion Title after defeating Goodna State School and St Mary’s … honestly who would have thought.”
