Ian Luetchford: nominee for the 2022 Rosewood Lions Citizen of the Year

Rosewood Lions Citizen of the Year nominee, Ian Luetchford, served in the Royal Australian Airforce for 32 years and once discharged, he joined the Rosewood Returned Services League Sub Branch.

During his time in the RSL, Ian has volunteered numerous hours selling badges for Remembrance Day and Anzac Day services and assisted in the organisation of these days.

Last year Ian was elected as the Rosewood RSL Treasurer where he focused on establishing a robust industry standard financial record keeping system for the Sub Branch and its members.

While active within the Rosewood RSL, he is also a member of the Rosewood Lions Club where he has served as President, Zone Chairman, a Board member for 25 years and has been on the Catering Committee as Chairman for the past 10 years.

Ian has also fulfilled the role of the Rosewood Showgrounds Campground Co-ordinator for past five years, where he assisted in establishing the campgrounds in 2015 under lease from the Ipswich City Council.

Ian was also actively involved in the establishment of the Lions Shed at the Rosewood Showgrounds.

In 2017, Ian assisted in the Rosewood Lions Club Breakfast Program at Walloon State School and he is a current member of a tourism group in the Ipswich region which networks with other tourism operators to further the interests of the Rosewood community.

Ian is also active within the Cabanda Care Board serving as Treasurer and Finance and Committee member in 2017 and 2018 and has also delivered Meals on Wheels for the past 15 years.

Ian has been involved in the Ipswich Catholic Community at St Brigid’s since 1984 where he has served as a Communion Minister, Mass Volunteer Coordinator and a Welcomer, he successfully sought the establishment of a Rosewood Lions Club Project to make much needed repairs to the historic St Brigid’s Parish Hall.

Also, as an active supporter of Diabetes Research Ian supports fundraisers each year locally through the Rosewood Lions.

Ian’s volunteering spirit has led him on endeavours with the Rosewood Scouts Group where he was committee chairman from 1996 to 2006 and received a service Appreciation Award from the Queensland Governor in 2003.

He was also Treasurer with the Rosewood Guides and attended to most of the maintenance at the Rosewood Guide Hut from 1995 through to 2007.
