Young grazier’s passion paves path to success

MT WALKER grazier Gabrielle (Gabby) Stokes has been winning awards with her Clearview Charolais stud.

Her most recent accomplishment was winning the Interbreed Female of the Show at Rosewood Show with Clearview Actress.

The show was her first this season as she’s been busy with her studies at university.

She’s not new to the industry, she’s worked hard since deciding she wanted her own stud when she was 15-years-old.

Now in her early 20s, Gabby is becoming known for her Clearview Charolais stud.

Last year, her Clearview Charolais stud combined with the Brendale Charolais stud from Tallegalla won the Interbreed Pair competition in the Stud Beef section at the Brisbane Exhibition.

The Scheiwe’s bull, Brendale Tab, won the Grand Champion Bull in the Charolais breed judging and went on to be selected for the win as the Interbreed male.

Gabby’s Clearview Actress 2 took out the Grand Champion Cow in the Charolais breed judging and was among the top five in the Interbreed Female competition.

The duo were then led back into the Interbreed ring by the Scheiwe and Stokes families and were selected by the judges for the penultimate win – the Shield of Excellence Champion of Champions Interbreed Pair.

Next year, the World Charolais Congress will be held in Brisbane and Gabby is looking forward to showing off her herd.

Gabby lives on her family’s farm with her parents and brothers who grow vegetables and grain, she’s the only one in the cattle game.

“I have around 30 head now, and then there’s ten heifers on feed at the moment, but I’ll only show about five of them,” she said.

“My numbers of bulls are starting to rise and I should have six or seven to show or take to a bull sale.

“This year I have two bulls in the bull sale whereas last year I only had one.”

Last year Gabby sold a bull for $14,000 that went to a stud. She’s happy her herd’s genetics are being appreciated within the Charolais world.
