Ian is the Rosewood Lions Citizen of the Year

THE 2022 Rosewood Lions Citizen of the Year is Ian Luetchford who was selected due to his long-time service to the community.

Ian is described as a man who has gone above and beyond through his involvement with so many organisations and clubs within the area, his achievement was acknowledged on Australia Day at a special presentation at the Rosewood State School Hall.

He said that it was a big surprise when he heard the news that he had been nominated for the Rosewood Lions Citizen of the Year Award.

“I have lived in Rosewood for many years and was drawn to volunteering because of the satisfaction that it gave me knowing that I was helping others,” he said.

“It is an absolute honour to known that my service has meant something to others and my involvement with all of the groups and organizations over the years has given me great satisfaction.

“My wife Carmel has been my support, she has worked alongside me and has also volunteered her time in assisting with many of the groups that I have been involved with.”

The peace of mind in knowing that Ian has helped in some way is an indescribable feeling for him and the friendships that he has made along the way have made it even more special.

“I have met people from all walks of life and now I call many of them my friends,” he said.

“The comradery and the good times that I have shared with these people, mean so much to me.

“Rosewood is a lovely little town that is full of community spirit, its people and the rich energy really give it a special feeling to be a part of.”

His volunteer service includes involvement with the Rosewood RSL, the Rosewood Lions, the Rosewood Showgrounds Campground, tourism within the Ipswich and Rosewood areas, Cabanda Care Rosewood, the Ipswich Catholic Community and St Brigid’s, the Rosewood Scouts group, the Rosewood Girl Guides and Diabetes Research Australia.

Within these groups he has served on the Board, has held numerous executive positions and has gone above and beyond as a leader, mentor and valued friend.

Supported by his wife Carmel, his children, his family and friends on the day, he was congratulated and thanked by many.

Ian plans to continue his service within the community saying that it is the people that you help that makes it all worth it.
