Grant win means a new home on the hill for Men’s Shed

THE Rosewood Men’s Shed has been successful in gaining a $35,000 grant for a new shed from the latest round of the Gambling Community Benefit Fund.

“We are a not-for-profit organisation who have established a presence on the top of Tallegalla Hill where we regularly meet to provide support for men within our community,” he said.

“About two years ago New Hope Mines kindly agreed to lease us this land, and on this property, there is a building with an old shed located at the back.

“The shed is completely rundown and is full of white ants and with this grant we are looking at replacing it.

“Once replaced we will use this space for storage and also for a workshop.”

It’s the second major grant the group has won from the Gambling Community Benefit Fund.

In 2018 the group was successful in receiving $35,000 this money has recently been used to complete renovations in the main building.

“Renovations that took place were excavation underneath the building and materials to build in this space to make it secure,” he said.

“Electrical work throughout the entire building, a new wooden fence, ramp access, restoring the old deck and other projects within the building has also taken place.

“Our door is open to men who may need support or who are looking to make some new friends, we also make and build items for local charities, schools and members of the public,” he said.

“We teach new skills, restore old tools and share knowledge over a cup of coffee, we are a versatile group who are also looking for new members.”

Now that the group has received substantial funds to be able to set up a safe meeting place, they aim to establish different avenues to make their own profits so that they do not have to rely on future grants.
